By default (at least under U.S. law), each co-author has an equal interest in the copyright of the work. It doesn`t matter how much (or little) each co-author contributed to the work. So, without any agreement, if there are two authors, the division is 50/50, one third for three authors, etc. 9. If one of us is unable or unable to continue or complete the work (book title), the other can finish the work on (book work title) without the help or advice of the co-author who is unable or un willing to continue or complete the work (book work title). In this case, we agree to discuss amending the relevant clauses of this agreement to reflect the new part of the work we will contribute and, if we do not reach an agreement, to submit these negotiations to binding arbitration. In the absence of a written agreement, cooperation between two persons has a good chance that the next work will be considered a joint work The formal legal definition of a “joint work” is “a work made by two or more authors for the purpose of merging their contributions into inseparable or interdependent parts of a single whole” (Copyright Act 1976, Section 101). By depositing a manuscript, the corresponding author confirms that all co-authors have seen and approved the validity of the content and authorize the deposit of the manuscript. On behalf of all co-authors, the corresponding author assumes full responsibility for the submission and his/her correspondence, and the publishing house cannot be held responsible for incomplete or false manuscripts deposited by the corresponding author. No author is added or removed after filing, unless the journal editor and all co-authors are notified and agree to this change.
