Dr. Lenton came to York University in 2002 as Dean of the Atkinson Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, where she oversaw significant enrollment and program diversification, as well as advanced and joint learning. From 2009 to 2012, she was York`s first assistant to the provocateur, then vice president academic & provost of the university from 2012 to April 2017. As Vice President academic and provost, Dr. Lenton led a series of important initiatives in the areas of academic planning, institutional change management, direction of academic priorities and resources, and strategic enrolment and addition planning, including the development of the university`s strategic mandate agreement and an institutionally integrated resource plan. As a committed supporter of community engagement and innovative partnerships, Mr. Lenton was instrumental in establishing the York University-TD Community Engagement Centre and strengthening York`s institutional cooperation with other post-secondary partners. As Chair of the President`s Community Engagement Task Force, she facilitated discussions with a wide range of electoral districts, culminating in a final report that ensured the central importance of engagement as a defining feature of university planning. Rhonda L. Lenton became the eighth President and Vice-Chancellor of York University on July 1, 2017. Prior to arriving in York, Dr. Lenton was a Dean Associate and Professor at McMaster University. A graduate in sociologist, she received her PhD from the University of Toronto in 1989.

Her teaching and research priorities are gender, family conflicts, sexual harassment, research methods and, more recently, higher education. She has published chapter and article studies in a large number of scientific journals. In 2019, she wrote a pioneering study of the Canadian Jewish community with colleagues at the University of Toronto and the Environics Institute for Survey Research. In addition to her duties in York, Dr. Lenton is a member of universities Canada`s Board of Directors and Research Committee, the Council of Ontario Universities (COU) Government and Community Relations Committee, and is co-chair of the Ontarial Council on Articulation and Transfer (ONCAT) Board of Directors. Previously, she was a member of the Academic Council Executive and represented the Academic Council on the eCampus Ontario Board and ONCAT. In recognition of their leadership qualities and quality as senior executives in higher education, Mr. Named in 2015 by the Women`s Executive Network (WXN) as one of Canada`s 100 Most Powerful Women, Lenton received the 2016 Angela Hildyard Recognition Award for continued demonstration of innovative leadership in promoting mission and making outstanding contributions to his institution and higher education. . .
